Arty stuff

Here is the arty stuff - somehow I don't think Brian will be quivering in his boots, but I rather liked the rafters reflected in the pool of water that is the living room at present...

and this is the first window space upstairs fully formed and ready to go:

Gable Gable Hey!

Today they've been working on the west gable where the roof overhangs - see the supporting oak post and the oak beams sticking out halfway up (they probably have a name.  Are they purlins?):
the front gable - see the tall post to the right of the front door - there's another waiting to be fitted on the left.  They have sawn tidy holes in the scaffolding to fit them in...
and the rear end of the garage which seems to be a relatively simple thing of a ladder each side...:

Mop required

Proof the underfloor waterproof membrane really is waterproof...

The story so far

Listening to The Scaffold...

...today it's been wet enough to Fill-ee the Sink which is why the builders have said No Thank U Very Much and haven't been working on the gable ends.

Rear view

After the excitement that was the early part of last week, the rate of visible change has slowed a little.  The chippies have added in most of the other bits of wood that are needed to hang a roof from, and today the scaffolding has moved out to the west (the right in this rear view) so that they can work on the western roof overhang - it sticks out beyond the side wall a bit to shelter the big bifolds below.
The concrete pads are where the posts go that hold up the roof extension - one in the middle of the pic and the other in the background.

More roof

Work continues on the roof. Still plenty left to do, but it's starting to look something like the finished build (in my imagination at least).

And, exercising my imagination some more, now they have added a (temporary) upstairs floor I can see what the internal space is going to be like.

Meanwhile the brickies have been adding some of the finishing details

Spot the difference

Yesterday...

...and today.

Can you see what they did?

It doesn't have a flat top - it's just that they haven't yet fitted the pointy bits (technical building term) on top. You can see them stacked on the ground in this pic.

Here's a view from upstairs.

The brickies have also been busy and the downstairs block work is now complete. Look at those curves!

Roof plate

We are up to roof plate level ready for the roof trusses to arrive on Monday.

The first of the oak frame work is in place at the front of the garage.

They've also started work on more of the internal walls. The pantry...

and a (so far) rather minimalist downstairs toilet.

Today's Post...

...here it is:
Meanwhile we're above window level - I believe at roof plate level - at front and rear

And meanwhile here is the 'no trench' (see previous post for 'trench') across the Stud's paddock now the new pipe has been laid awaiting the connection to replace the existing bodge job into site.

Oh Wat-er Carry-on

Yesterday they dug the trench out for the new water supply.  Whilst so doing, James found not 1, not 2 etc but 6 pipes crossing the trench... plus (ahem) the land drain he'd fitted last week (oops).  We had all sorts of excitement working out what was in use and wasn't, and then remaking the bits that mattered.  Here are some of them:
Meanwhile, the hole for our (small) LPG tank is 6mx3mx2mdeep - I wonder what else they're thinking of fitting in there!

Alan had a brilliant idea today that perhaps if he put some furniture into the rooms they would seem larger.  So - Before
And After - and do you know what, I think he's right!
And here he is, sat in what will be the sitting area looking at the views - I'm stood somewhere to the right of the kitchen island:

It really has got off the ground....

Oh dear, it's almost too exciting! Today the scaffolding has gone up...
...and it looks like this!  (don't tell the builders we've been playing on the scaffolding, will you!)
Not only that, but we have the first room indoors - the snug.  Or library.  Or telly room. Or music room.  Or Alan's office.  Whatever, we have it.  And note the sexy curved wall
which looks like this on the outside.  This is an architect arty special...

Digger park

It's all happening at the moment! As you can see, James the Digger has excavated the digger park today.  In the masterplan, it also fits two cars side-by-side.
This is a view from the north-west corner of the plot back along the terrace to the front- it will be patio at the bottom and certainly to start with grass on the upper level:
